shooting inconsistencies...heh, another one « Thread Started on Jan 17, 2004, 1:45pm »
it seems like when i shoot at home, i can nail every bucket. my form feels great, and i'm comfortable.
when i play with friends and i'm shooting though, it all goes out of wack. i don't have much experience playing teamball, but still...especially when there's a guy in my face, i screw up my form. any tips?

try to shoot from a high point instead of shooting from a low point and also pertend that no one is there, just pop the shot in there eyelid!
Ive tried pretending that noone is there. Thats when I get blocked. Just KNOW that people are there and be alert. Wait till you have a good shot, and take it. If your nervous in front of other people, pretend like your just playin for fun. If that doesnt work, youll eventually get used to it, and it will become natural not to goof up in front of other people.

Glad I could help guys. -- to Astromoneyx i think that you are shooting so good because your the only one there with a homecourt advantage, that means you are just so used to it that it becomes like lay-ups, impossible to miss. So i would say if you have a moveable basketball hoop, every day, move it to a new spot in your back yard, or wherever you have it.... E.G. - if you have your hoop up against a wall, than put it in the corner, and the next day in the middle of your yard etc... this should hellp so you can develop a better shot... also make sure its at 10 ft... maybe even put like some bricks under it to make it like 10 ft 7 in or something... becus u ever notcie how if the Rim is lower, than almost effortlessly you are makin ya shots... try it

hmm...
thanks springz. my hoop should be at above 10' actually, i set it up at his highest, and that's about 10.5'.
you're right though, it may be the fact that i'm at home...but i hit most of my shots when i'm just shooting around too. I'd move the hoop, but this kind is pretty hard to move around. I'll try though. Thanks!

well I went outside today...
didn't move the hoop, but i decided to shoot differently. Instead of kinda "throwing" the ball in there, i tried "pushing" the ball up, with the highest arc possible. Seems to work a lot better, and i get better power behind my shots. now i've got to work out consistency with my form...

for Form correction i would say take your ball into your room and Lie on your back, practice using "perfect" form and shoot, but dont push to hard that you hit the ceiling, just shoot, and aim for the same spot over n over, n make sure the ball comes back towards your face (of cousre cathe the ball) each time... while doing this visualize your in the game, (*throw the ball off the wall and quick act like your squaring up with the basket and shoot -- while still laying down -- *) and act like someone is coming for you, but keep your confidence.. this works your form and shot... Good Luckk

It may also help to be more aggressive and jump into your defender on occasion to keep him honest. Challenge him to block your shot. It is not easy to block a jumper.
